Masques are a must

Masques are a must

Congratulations to Sorbet Gateway! They cleaned up at the recent Derm Awards and were crowned National Winner as well as Regional Winner for Durban. I spoke to Neerita from Sorbet Gateway (031) 566 3208 and asked her a few questions about masques.

Why should we incorporate a masque in our beauty regime?
Applying a masque is a vital step in ones regime, especially if you exfoliate. A masque will help to restore moisture, leaving the skin feeling soft and supple and most importantly, it helps to build up the skin's barrier.
What ingredients should I look out for?
Aloe vera and camomile helps to soothe and calm skin.
Vitamins have very high antioxidant properties, to help with free radical damage.
Hylaronic acid is a powerful molecule that carries water to the skin and helps to plump it up to 80%.
What age should I start using a masque?
Anyone from the age of 16 can start using a masque. You never to old to use a masque!
Where should it fit into my regime?
Usually done after exfoliation to restore moisture and to help with the barrier function.
Suggested steps:
Cleanse, exfoliate, MASQUE, tone, moisturise.
How often should I use a masque?
We, the skin experts, say ideally you should masque at least 2-3 times a week for a minimum of 10 minutes with just a thin layer .
What masque would you recommend to a client?
I love the Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque (R560 for 75ml) from Dermalogica. This masque is filled with antioxidants, which helps fight free radical damage, contains all essential vitamins especially vitamin c which is a powerful ingredient to help with pigmentation.
It also increases elasticity while promoting collagen production to restore suppleness.

NEWS: Dermalogica has updated and improved their skin health system masques and have recently re-launched their Skin Refining Masque and their Skin Hydrating Masque. They are more powerful, more potent and focuses on problem-solving. They say: "The new formulations address two primary skin care issues: reducing oiliness and refining the appearance of pores, and the need for deep hydration." Pop into Sorbet for more information on these exciting updates.

OLD FAVOURITE: Environ's Original Balancing Masque was developed specifically to hydrate and to remove excess oils from the skin. An Environ insider gives this great tip: "This masque is particularly popular because unlike other clay masques it is not visible once it has dried. This means that it is super for wearing on long-distance overnight flights where one’s skin becomes dehydrated and of course one can go to bed without looking like something from outer space."

Essie's taking us on holiday

Essie has just launched their new collection called, 'Resort'. There is a colour to suit every occasion. Ranging from the seductive, deep violet of No More Film, to the reflective lilac of She's Picture Perfect. And for the fans of pink, they have a glistening magenta called Sure Shot and a sheer Pink-a-Boo. Pop into your favourite Sorbet salon for these new colours (R99 each).

Comfort food

There is a chill in the air. The sun is coming up later and setting earlier and my natural instinct to hibernate and cuddle is kicking in. Interestingly, this shift into Autumn goes hand in hand with my desire for an eggy breakfast. Here is a new favorite egg sandwich courtesy of Jennifer Causey and her blog, simplybreakfast.blogspot.com:

Hard boil an egg.
She says: "Place an egg in a pot of cold water, boil for 7 minutes, then remove and dunk in cold water"
Toast and English muffin
She says: " I toast mine in a cast iron skillet with a little olive oil."
Make a mixture of spicy mustard and mayonnaise. Add a few capers.
Top the English muffin with the mustard/mayo mixture and add your favorite toppings.
She says: " I added the hard boiled egg, fresh baby spinach, thin sliced red onion, a little black pepper and sea salt. SO GOOD!"
And finally…
